Change your Brain, Change your Life (2010-07-21) : 3/5
The book is more case history and I have not seen much that could tell you more than common sense over all. Yes, the brain and head are major parts of ones body and medical technology is changing every day. More is learned and improvements in caring for and treating the human wonder as each day passes. Some people are just born with problems, some happen due to injuries and how a person deals with the events of their lives makes a world of difference. I have not yet read the entire book as you can only truly digest so much of it at a time. The self help questions along the way may be of help to some but so far I have not seen great value to the average person. Doctors who specialize in the brain parts may be more interested in doing more studies on a greater variety of the population for comparrison. Who knows. Maybe everyone should have SPECT test and the insurance companies would really croak then. How else can anyone prove what is going on in the brain?
Great Book, Great Service (2010-07-20) : 5/5
This book is a must have in your library. You can't just read it and take it back to the library. I refer to it several times a month....and I'm healthy.
great book (2010-07-07) : 5/5
This has so many cool, useful facts in it, that make sense. The title is misleading in that it will change your life, rather it should be titled "This is how the brain works, and there are tools one can use to stimulate parts that need a bit of circulation, and to decrease circulation in other parts." Really just knowing and being aware that this is how the brain works under certain conditions is so very helpful. It has good explanations, and pictures, and easy to read. One of the neat things is that when this was written the health profession was not looking towards this way of treatment, and now so many years later there are many of these tools that are commonly used today.
a biochemical reason behind mental disorders (2010-07-04) : 5/5
Dr. Daniel Amen's Change Your Brain Change Your Life provides an idea that much of the psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, and the like, can be attributed to neurological brain disorders, not just regular psychological reasons.
This was an interesting book. Amen's main idea is that certain psychological disorders could have a neurological component in the brain. There might be psychological reason behind the disorder, but brain function maybe impaired to an extent that the suffer may have a difficult time overcoming the disorder.
Amen uses a SPECT machine to measure blood flow in the brain. Based on the SPECT scans, he shows that certain disorders is associated with common patterns of bloodflow irregularies in the brain. Based on his experience with the SPECT scans, he theorizes that a psychological disorder could have a physiological component.
He also shows how drugs and alcohol affects, or impairs, the brain. He also describes in good detail the roles of certain parts of the brain such as the limbic system, prefrontal cortex, basal ganglia, cingulate gyrus, and the temporal lobes.
I would recommend this book to anybody whose loved one suffers from anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD, drug abuse, and so forth. This book may offer a clue as to why some people suffer they way they do. This book is a good introduction to the roles of certain parts of the brain such as the prefrontal cortex, limbic system, and so forth. I have read a number of financial books and have come across at least one reference to the brain. If you know nothing about the brain, this book might be a good intro to it.
Thumbs up for Change your Brain, Change your Life (2010-06-09) : 5/5
