The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl
:
Not new but tried & true (2010-07-30) : 3/5
These recipes already existed in my recipe box, save for a handful. Although, Ree does say that these are recipes she "learned to make" and that "defined her experience in the country." Some reviewers were upset that Ree is "taking credit" for recipes that aren't hers, but I don't think she's doing that. She's just sharing some good-ole country recipes!
I agree with other reviewers that it would have been nice to see more originality infused into these classic recipes, and I agree that well over 50% of the book is photographs. You could also look at this as a good thing. If you're newly married or a young cook, this might be the perfect book for you! If you live in the "big city" and want to try some down-home-cookin' - then again, this would be the book!
...But, if you're from any Midwestern state or rural area and have some cooking skills already, you might want to browse the blog for some cute stories that you can relate to, and then move on to more challenging cookbooks.
Not What I Expected (2010-07-28) : 1/5
Like many of the other reviewers, I also love Ree's blog. Her humor and zest for life is very fun. But this book ... wow. I returned it to the bookstore within the hour. I have MANY cookbooks that have fried chicken, "perfect steak," macaroni and cheese and pico de gallo. I was looking for unique spins on things - perhaps more from her mother's famous recipe binder? As a home cook, I am going to refer to Joy of Cooking or another tome like that to remind myself how to make mac & cheese. Glad I didn't keep it.
Im Lovin it!! (2010-07-26) : 5/5

Delicious Recipes (2010-07-26) : 5/5
I have been an avid follower of Pioneer Woman's blog for the past couple of years, and I can now say that I am an avid fan of her cookbook. I love how she showcases each recipe with full-colour, step-by-step detail making it easy to follow along. Her style of cooking is all about slowing down, relishing the joys of family, nature, great food and enjoying life. Now that's what I'm talking about.
